Living Easter

“But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”” – John 20:24-25

Easter Sunday was simply incredible. The children bringing in our alleluias and hallelujah balloons that were now in full air, the music was outstanding, the worship was powerful, and Jesus was palpable.

Living Easter can prove challenging, ask Thomas. You have not witnessed these things for yourself. Everyone is in a tizzy about the risen Christ. You long to join in the chorus but you need to see for yourself.

I have always found it funny that Thomas demands to see and touch Jesus’ wounds but he never does so. When he does see the risen Christ the need to touch the old wounds was not necessary.

Living Easter is about setting things free that were once thought dead as a doornail. Yet, you don’t truly live Easter unless you see the resurrection not the resuscitation that we expect. How will you live Easter this year? Who are you called to set free and witness to their transformation?

One such place comes to mind, Sri Lanka. We can be down right horrible to one another. Living Easter reminds us to love in ways that are unexpected. To tell the story of the risen Christ. To spread a different message of what Christ continues to do among us.

Live Easter as if your life and other’s lives depend on it. For that is how the kingdom of God here and now will come into being.
